Help us to tackle dog's mess in Greater Bargoed

Dog fouling has been identified as an issue by Greater Bargoed Communities First Partnership members and in the recent community audit.

A multi- agency approach will be taken in October half term to tackle this issue. The two stage project hopes to educate not only dog walkers, but also the wider community about the dangers and risks associated with dog littering, highlighting the scale of the problem in each of the areas and improving the appearance of each area by cleaning it up.

The week long event will be hosted jointly by Communities First, The Environmental Health Department at Caerphilly Borough County Council, Tidy Town, Tidy places team and Groundwork Caerphilly.

The first stage of the project will focus on educating dog walkers, children and the wider public about the dangers of dog fouling as well as highlighting the scale of the problem in each of the areas.  This will be achieved through a road show and environmental walk abouts using flags to highlight the number of dog fouling incidents in a particular area.
The second stage will involve environmental clean up’s of the area’s which have been identified during the first stage of the project followed by another environmental walk about to measure the impact of the project.

The dog warden will be joining in with activities and poo bags will be available during the project to dog walkers.

It is hoped this multi-agency approach will lead to a clean environment free from dog litter.

If you would like to join us, come along to Cartref, Cardiff Road, Bargoed (next to Redz) at 1 p.m. on Tuesday 26th October.

Remember

It is the the responsibility of the dog's owner to clear up any dog foul caused by their dog. If they fail to do this, they could be issued a fixed penalty notice of £75.00. Being unaware that the dog has fouled, or not having a suitable means of removing the faeces is not a reasonable excuse for failing to clean up after your dog.
