Find out the latest FREE training offered by GAVO (Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations)

GAVO are holding the following courses:-

RNID Deaf Awareness Training (1/2 day)
Objectives
· To gain awareness of the specific problems faced by people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

· To gain knowledge of the DDA and the obligations to people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

· To understand how to communicate confidently with people who are deaf and hard of hearing.

· To gain the confidence to successfully recruit people who are deaf and hard of hearing into volunteering opportunities and community participation.

Dates; either Tues 21st Sept (10.00-13.00) at GAVO offices, Unit 1a, First Floor, Withey Dyffryn Court, Dyffryn Business Park, Ystrad Mynach CF82 7TT

Or: Mon 27th Sept (10.00-13.00) at GAVO offices, Holly House, Llancayo Court, Llancayo, Usk NP15 1HY

RNID “Start to Sign” Training (2 day accredited course)
Objectives

· To gain knowledge of clear communication tactics to be used when communicating with people who have a hearing loss.

· To acquire the ability to fingerspell

· To gain the confidence to hold an introductory conversation in British Sign Language. Course will cover numbers and simple grammar.

Dates; either Wed/Thurs 15th/16th Sept for 2 day course at GAVO offices, Ty Derwen, Church Road, Newport NP19 7EJ

Or: Tues/Wed 5th/6th Oct for 2 day course at GAVO offices, Education Centre, Festival Park Shopping Centre, NP23 8FP

The courses are FREE but must be booked in advance as spaces are limited to 12 people.
