The Rotary Club of Bargoed recently held its 13th Annual Sportsman’s Evening at the Maes Manor Hotel Blackwood.
The purpose of the evening is to raise funds in support of the Club’s charitable activities with the major beneficiary being the President’s nominated charity.
This year’s President David Price chose Wales Air Ambulance, an all Wales charity providing a vital service through emergency air cover for those who face life-threatening illness or injuries. Click here to visit the Wales Air Ambulance website
The evening, in the company of rugby legend Scott Quinell and comedian Miki Travis was a great success. Scott spoke with great humour about his long rugby career and his subsequent commenting role with Sky.
Miki Travis ended the evening brilliantly demonstrating why he is one of the most sought after comedians on the after dinner circuit.
Rotary Past District Governor Clayton Heycock, Mayor of Caerphilly CBC Councillor James Fussell, Councillor Harry Andrews and Mervyn Thomas of Wales Air Ambulance were the guests of outgoing Rotary Club of Bargoed President David Price.
Master of Ceremonies was Phil Atkinson who once more kept everything well under control and more or less on time!
In concluding the evening, David Price paid tribute to everyone who had come together to make the evening so enjoyable and successful and to the Maes Manor Hotel for yet again providing the perfect venue for the event.
During the evening a cheque of £2600 was presented to Mervyn Thomas the amount including £300 raised through a Harvest Festival and £1300 in respect of a bucket collection arranged by Rtn Craig Walters of Cardiff Audi at the end of season Blues v Munster match.
The joint winners of the £250 stand up bingo segment were Councillor Harry Andrews and Rotn Richie Perry. They kindly donated £50 to the Mayor’s charity with the balance of £200 going to Air Ambulance Wales further increasing the money raised.
Once the total amount raised on the night is the Wales Air Ambulance Service will have a further donation.
The Rotary Club of Bargoed is grateful to the continued kind sponsorship of McBurney Retail Ltd.
